The “Practice of Advanced Registered Nursing”
Definition: “Practice of Advanced Registered Nursing” is defined as the performance of advanced-level nursing actions, which by virtue of post-basic specialized education, training, and experience, are proper to be performed, with or without compensation or personal profit. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) performs acts of advanced assessment, diagnosing, prescribing, selecting, administering, and providing therapeutic measures and treatment regimes; Obtaining consultation, planning and implementing collaborative management, referral, or transferring the care of a client as appropriate.
The APRN shall practice within standards consistent with standards established by a national credentialing or certification body recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing in the appropriate APRN role and specialty. Each APRN shall be accountable to clients and the Board for recognizing limits of knowledge and experience and planning for the management of situations beyond the APRN’s expertise.
